The upcoming James Brown biopic has its James Brown. Deadline reports that actor Chadwick Boseman has been picked to portray the Godfather of Soul in Universal Pictures’ long-gestating film about the legendary singer.
Boseman had previously appeared on screen as the iconic baseball player Jackie Robinson in 42. His role as James Brown had previously been rumored to be offered to the likes of Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes over the past ten years of the film’s development.
Brown had been heavily involved in the pre-production of the film before his death in 2006. Mick Jagger is also attached to produce the film, which will be directed by The Help‘s Tate Taylor.
