Elmore readers may recognize Dom Flemons as the leader of the Grammy-winning roots band Carolina Chocolate Drops. Now, Flemons has gone solo for a brand new album, Prospect Hill, which is coming out on July 22nd. An expert on African-American folk music, Flemons makes albums that shift from one style to another in the span of one song, and Prospect Hill is no different, covering everything from folk to blues to bluegrass and much, much more.
Flemons has given listeners a taste of what’s to come on Prospect Hill with “Can’t Do It Anymore.” A classic-sounding acoustic blues, the song features Flemons accompanied by his acoustic guitar, and the simplicity is at once refreshing and comforting. The video for “Can’t Do It Anymore” finds Flemons alone with his guitar, lightly strumming while his excellent voice does the heavy lifting.
