Now gearing up for its 36th annual ceremony, it has long been clear to most blues fans that the Blues Music Awards is the award show of record for blues lovers. Each year, the Awards (presented by The Blues Foundation) honor the blues purists—the bluesman’s bluesmen (and blueswomen)—unswayed by the prevailing winds of pop. This year is no exception, with nominees led by stalwarts like Elvin Bishop, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr., Marcia Ball, Bettye LaVette, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, John Németh, Beth Hart and Elmore’s own Carl Gustafson.

See below for the full list of nominees (click highlighted names for in-depth Elmore coverage) and stay tuned for the results this May, when the ceremony will be held at Memphis’ Cook Convention Center (info and tickets available here soon).
