With a fresh batch of shows and live album releases, Gov’t Mule is celebrating its 20th anniversary in style.
Next up, on December 15, Warren Haynes and company will release Dark Side of the Mule, a set of Pink Floyd covers from a 2008 show. For a taste of the album, check out “Pigs on the Wing, Pt. 2,” originally on Pink Floyd’s Animals, below—where you’ll also find interesting alternate album cover designs.
Overall, featuring 90 minutes of Pink Floyd covers (and two former Pink Floyd backup singers) and three hours of music total, Dark Side of the Mule—whether in its CD, vinyl, digital or deluxe (three CDs and a DVD) format—is likely everything Pink Floyd fans and Gov’t Mule fans would ever want for Christmas (click links just above to pre-order in each format).
Speaking of Christmas, the band is also set to play Haynes’ annual Christmas Jam this Saturday, December 13, in Asheville, NC (tickets and info here). Joining the band this time around will be Vince Gill, Jason Isbell, Hard Working Americans and more.

And if live shows, Christmas Jam and Dark Side aren’t enough (can you ever really have too much Gov’t Mule?), look out for the other live album releases the group is rolling out. First, on Record Store Day Black Friday (November 28), the band released Stoned Side of the Mule, a vinyl-only collection of Rolling Stones covers culled from a 2009 show. Then, January 27 will see the release of Sco-Mule, a never-before-released 1999 live performance featuring John Scofield that represents something of a holy grail for Gov’t Mule fans. Finally, in March, we’ll have Dub Side of the Mule, a live reggae set with Toots and the Maytals from 2006. For now, here’s Mule doing Floyd:
