If you’ve never seen Billy Joe Shaver, you’re missing out on something good. The Texas-bred singer/songwriter has written and recorded some of the finest outlaw tunes ever put to wax, from “Way Down Texas Way” to the stunning “I’m Just An Old Chunk Of Coal,” which was later covered by the late Johnny Cash. Even now, Shaver is writing some of his best material, as those who listened to his newest album Long In The Tooth will attest. At 75, Shaver is set to make his network television debut on The Late Show With David Letterman alongside his old buddy Willie Nelson, and Shaver will be sticking around for a performance at New York’s City Winery.
