Fun. broke into the mainstream in a big way with their album Some Nights, which featured chart-topping songs like “We Are Young” and the title track. Since then, though, the band have been slow to reconvene to come out with a followup, though they’ve been plenty busy with multi-instrumentalist Jack Antonoff winning acclaim for his side project Bleachers and singer Nate Ruess appearing on songs with Pink and Eminem. With this relative silence and their success apart, rumors have begun to circulate that the band are on the verge of breaking up. Now, the band have spoken up on the matter via a long Facebook post saying that, no, they are not breaking up any time soon.
In the note (via Billboard), the band confirm that they have been spending more time apart to work on their own material (Ruess is apparently preparing a solo record), but they insist that this is the way that they’ve always worked as a band. “One thing that has always been so special about Fun. is that we exist as 3 individuals in music who come together to do something collaborative,” the band said. “We make Fun. records when we are super inspired to do so.”
So a new Fun. record probably isn’t going to come any time soon, but there is a solo record to get excited about. For now, at least, Fun. are still a band, though we hope to hear more from them soon.
