Lead Belly is a man who needs no introduction, but in case you need a refresher on the enormity of his influence, a quote by George Harrison is a good place to start: “No Lead Belly, no Beatles.”
New York’s City Winery is putting on a very special evening tonight in advance of Lead Belly Fest, which takes place at Carnegie Hall on February 4th. This “taste” of Lead Belly Fest will still be quite the event in and of itself, featuring Walter Trout, Dana Fuchs, Tom Chapin, Jon Cobert, Ali Isabella, Tyehimba Jess and Sari Schorr.
Various incarnations of Lead Belly Fest have been performed across the globe as a tribute to the life and career of the musical legend. New York’s Fest is performed in support of two charities—Project A.L.S., which helps fund research for ALS, the disease that took Lead Belly’s life at only 61, and ABC, the Association to Benefit Children, which works tirelessly to provide services for disadvantaged youth in the city.
