Artist: Tedeschi Trucks Band
Album: Signs
Label: Fantasy Records
Release Date: 2.15.2019
After a gap of around three years following their last studio album, Let Me Get By, Tedeschi Trucks have returned to the studio recording world with a genuinely excellent offering, Signs. This is an album jammed to the rafters with clever, literate songwriting and the usual truly outstanding musicianship. Their old buddy, Warren Haynes, has teamed up on writing duties, but apart from that, this is a searing, self-penned, soaring bit of R&B with a soul echo, aided by the band’s driving horn section.
Derek Trucks produced the album, which was recorded at their downtown home studio in Florida. Now about to take to the road on a punishing global tour, the band will be out promoting the album big-time. On the basis of this wonderful eleven-track release, this could easily be one of those tours you just can’t afford to miss.
Trucks brings all his old, wily Allman Brothers’ slide guitar guile and class to the mix while Tedeschi’s voice is better than it may ever have been before. The result is a genuinely great album with every track pulling the listener along, caught in the glare of these musical headlights and highlights. Although it’s still a tad early, Signs could well already be an Album of the Year, a simply stunning release that never wanes or dims with repeated listenings.
Make no mistake, Signs is a truly tremendous release from a band clearly working at the very highest levels of musical brilliance.
