Austin, TX orchestral folk quintet American Dreamer craft compositions that glow from within with a soft, resinous warmth. Their latest album, Go Where You Go, ebbs and flows, mirroring human experience and its hopes, joys, beauty and solace, both grand and intimate.
The band grew from Sasha Klare-Ayvazian’s songwriting and her fondness for strings. “I found myself befriending string players” laughs Klare-Ayvazian. “My fiancée is our cellist. At a certain point it was kinda a lightbulb moment.”
Klare-Ayvazian told Elmore a bit about the concept and execution of this “Hey Boy” video.
“The ‘Hey Boy’ is me. It is a song about looking back at your younger self when joy was a little more simple to hold onto, concerns were fewer and far between, and the perfect summer night seemed to last forever. This concept was a bit hard to capture on video especially in the middle of winter in Chicago, so, working with the film crew at Victory Records, we decided to make the video about moving out of an apartment and ending a chapter of your life. A place where you’ve loved, lost, laughed, cried, stayed up all night, passed out early—lived life!
“We decided it was important that the video had a positive ending. There’s enough sadness as is. So in the end, you see the main character leave the apartment for the last time with his friends. The idea being that while this chapter is ending, a new one will begin, and no matter what, your friends will be the common thread through the journey.”
American Dreamer is Klare-Ayvazian (vocals, guitar, banjo), Dana Wygmans (vocals, bass), Camille Schiess (vocals, violin), Courtney Castaneda (cello), Rick Palese (drums) and Audrey Lee (vocals, violin, viola).
