Premiere: JD & The Straight Shot cross The Great Divide

Allman's Jessica, as Americana as apple pie

Americana band JD & The Straight Shot just released their all-acoustic album, The Great Divide, filled with unforgettable hooks, soaring melodies and powerful stories performed by friends whose joy shines through in every sparkling track Inspired by artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and the Civil Wars, JD & The Straight Shot delivers a sweet sound, strong songwriting and the swagger of rock n’ roll.

Their influences may explain why the band chose to cover the Allman Brothers’ “Jessica.” Frontman, vocalist and guitarist Jim Dolan told Elmore how he views the band’s take on the classic instrumental:

“Erin Slaver, on violin, and [producer] Marc Copely’s mandolin translated Dickey Betts’ and Chuck Leavell’s solos, and their abilities really make this tune work. It was a difficult piece to record and play straight through. I hope the listener feels we did the song justice.”

JD & The Straight Shot is vocalist/guitarist Jim Dolan, guitarist/vocalist/producer Marc Copely (B.B. King, Rosanne Cash), upright bassist Byron House (Robert Plant, Dolly Parton), violinist/vocalist Erin Slaver (Martina McBride, Rod Stewart), drummer/percussionist Shawn Pelton (Sheryl Crow, Saturday Night Live band) and guitarist/vocalist Carolyn Dawn Johnson (Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride).
