In the span of time between their breakup in 1998 and now, the indie-rock outfit Neutral Milk Hotel have gone from moderately respected indie band to one of the most revered underground groups of all time. Despite clamors for a reunion from a new generation of fans, the band have resisted reuniting, and lead singer/songwriter Jeff Mangum had only recently ceased being indie rock’s most sought-after recluse. Now, after a few years doing solo tours, Mangum has finally decided to get the band back together.
This fall, Neutral Milk Hotel will play their first tour dates since the 1990s, playing two shows in their native Athens, Georgia before heading out to North Carolina and East Asia. At the moment, only a handful dates have been announced, but the strange letter sent out by the band to announce the tour leaves the door open for more tour dates…we think.
All Neutral Milk Hotel tour dates are available below:
10/22 & 10/23 – 40 Watt Club (Athens, GA)
10/25 – Thomas Wolfe Auditorium w/ Daniel Johnston and Half Japanese (Asheville, NC)
11/28 – Hostess Club Taipei (Taipei, Taiwan)
12/1 – Hostess Club Weekender (Tokyo, Japan)
