The music world was changed irrevocably by the Woodstock Music & Arts Festival in 1969, and the festival’s organizers are planning something special to commemorate the fest’s upcoming 50th anniversary. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Woodstock organizer Michael Lang revealed that plans are in place to put together a concert in 2019.
“I think we’re certainly done until the 50th [anniversary],” Lang told the magazine, adding that he and his fellow organizers were starting to look at locations for the new concert. There’s no word yet on whether the festival’s original location in Bethel, New York–where the two ill-fated official sequels to Woodstock were also hosted in 1994 and 1999–would be considered.
Since 1969, Woodstock has experienced a few revivals and celebrations each decade, most recently with 2009’s Heroes Of Woodstock Tour, which featured Jefferson Starship, Canned Heat, Ten Years After, and Big Brother & The Holding Company, among others.
