Singer/songwriter Brian Lopez has returned with his second album, Static Noise, which finds him hunkering down and taking a more song-oriented approach after the artistic free-for-all of his debut. Choosing instead to focus on a more guitar-centric sound, Lopez keeps the important part of his repertoire at the center of his music: his inimitable voice. It makes him the perfect singer to tackle The Ronettes classic “Be My Baby,” and Lopez certainly does it justice. Backed by a recording that cleverly mimics Phil Spector’s “Wall Of Sound,” Lopez pays respect for the song and its influence while making it into something all his own.
