You Can’t Use My Name: Curtis Knight & The Squires (featuring Jimi Hendrix) The RSVP/PPX Sessions has been a long time coming. The album title itself makes light of the decades of litigation and controversy over a recording contract with PPX Records that has held up the release of these works by Curtis Knight & the Squires from the years when a pre-fame Jimi Hendrix played guitar in the band.

Now, with the blessing of the Experience Hendrix, Eddie Kramer, the sound engineer behind most of Hendrix’s seminal recordings, spearheaded the effort of sifting through the 88 songs Hendrix recorded with the Squires between 1965 and 1967, remastering the very best. The resulting 14 tracks are now the definitive collection of the early work of Hendrix before he was Hendrix.

Hall recalls his memories of young Hendrix, and shares some colorful bits of lore. Apparently, young Mr. Hendrix wasn’t lacking for talent when the band discovered him…but he did show up without a guitar.
