 The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be celebrating the 2011 inductees at the Waldorf Astoria on the fourteenth of March. The latest legends inducted are Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Dr. John, Neil Diamond and Darlene Love. LL Cool J, Donna Summer, Bon Jovi, the Beastie Boys and J. Geils Band were amongst the nominees who weren't selected this year.
Musician and artist Don Van Vliet died on December 17th due to complications from multiple sclerosis. Known by his persona Captain Beefheart, Van Vliet with the Magic Band released 12 studio albums. During the 1980s he gave up music to focus on painting. The Michael Werner Gallery, where he repeatedly exhibited his work, announced the death.
 Nine Inch Nails founder Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score for The Social Network has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. They are the only nominees that haven't been nominated for the award before. In addition to their Golden Globe nods for Best Original Score, nominees A.R. Rahman, Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman have also been nominated for Academy Awards in the same category.
 Rapper Eminem will be returning to the silver screen for the first time since his critically acclaimed performance in 8 Mile. Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter will write the screenplay for the film which is purportedly about the troubled life of a welterweight boxer to be played by the musician. Southpaw, as the film is reportedly titled, will be co-produced by Eminem's own Shady Films.
Billboard released its list of the 25 most successful tours of the year. Bon Jovi claims the top spot with all 69 show dates selling out. U2 comes in second with 22 out of 22 shows selling out. AC/DC, Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas round out the top five.
 After undergoing surgery, soul goddess Aretha Franklin has been released from the hospital and has announced that the procedure was highly successful. Though Franklin has announced the specific ailment she suffers from, television and news outlets from the Detroit area where she was treated have reported it is pancreatic cancer.
R.E.M. announced that their latest album, Collapse Into Now, will be released on March 8, 2011. The group got their start in Athens, Georgia, but recorded their new album in New Orleans and in Berlin. With the help of producer Jacknife Lee and fellow musicians Patti Smith, Eddie Vedderand Peaches, fans of the trio are sure to be counting down the days until March.
