Question One: The Temptations were one of Motown's most popular and acclaimed artists. Their recording of "Get Ready," released in 1966, was not the hit they expected, reaching number 29 on the Billboard singles charts. It has since been recorded by several other artists. Who had a top five hit with the recording? What was distinct about the artist?
|
|
Answer: "Get Ready," since the Temptations' recording, has been recorded by the Supremes and Fergie (under a different title). However, in 1970, Rare Earth released a version that rose to number four on the Billboard singles charts. Not only was this their first Motown recording, but it was special in other ways. Rare Earth was the first white group to have a hit for Motown with their edited version of the song. The original album cut took up an entire side of the LP at over 21 minutes long.
