2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Grateful Dead, and the surviving members of the band are commemorating that with one more round of shows under their original moniker. Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzman will reunite for a trio of shows at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The band have recruited Phish frontman Trey Anastasio to fill in for the late Jerry Garcia, and they will also be joined by Bruce Hornsby.
The band decided on the Chicago shows after debating several offers to reunite, including a reported $3 million offer to headline Bonnaroo this year. The band have already ruled out a tour, and Weir claims that “these will be the last shows with the four of us together.”
Tickets for the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary show go on sale on February 14th, with pre-sale tickets becoming available on February 12th and 13th.
