If you’ve ever dreamed of being a rock star performing before a sold-out screaming stadium, then wake up to reality. You could be battered, immolated or worse. Consider the disasters that (sometimes literally) fell upon unfortunate stars onstage:
- 1973 Gene Simmons (KISS) sets his hair ablaze after breathing fire
- 1974 Iggy Pop pelted with eggs and bottles of piss by a local biker gang he challenged to attend the show
- 1978 Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) goose-steps across the stage and blames the crowd for the Nazi regime at a German festival
- 1982 Ozzy Osborne bites the head off of a live bat on stage and is rushed to hospital for shots
- 1984 Michael Jackson’s hair catches fire during a Pepsi commercial shoot in front of 3,000 fans
- 1990 Curtis Mayfield is paralyzed from the neck down by toppled light rig
- 1992 James Hetfield (Metallica) suffers second degree burns after stepping into pyro blast, stopping the show and inciting a riot among 78,322 angry fans
- 1992 Krist Novoselic (Nirvana) throws his bass in the air, is treated by medics after it lands on his head
- 2003 The Station burns to ground during Great White show, killing 100 people
- 2004 Dimebag Darrell (Pantera/Damageplan) shot and killed on stage by crazed fan
- 2011 Jimmy Buffett falls off the stage at the Sydney Opera House, knocking himself unconscious for eight minutes
