Dirty Projectors are 3 years removed from their last album Bitte Orca, which was highly regarded as one of the best albums of 2009; a tough act to follow, they are releasing their 6th LP Swing Lo Magellan, on July 10th. In support of their upcoming release, the band has unveiled an Apple iPod commercial-like music video for their new single, “Gun Has No Trigger”, that is “about the possibility for true dissent, and how I can’t figure out what that could be. What is a 2012 Exodus from the Society of the Spectacle (to mix language Situationist and Rastafari)?” according to David Longstreth, the band’s singer/guitarist/mastermind. After the first listen, you might not be able to understand what he is asking, but those harmonies are unearthly and would put anyone living in “the city that never sleeps” into a perfect, lullaby sleep. Speaking of New York, NPR Music will live broadcast the band’s record release show on July 10th at the Prospect Park Bandshell, as part of the Celebrate Brooklyn series.
On June 19th, the band is set to perform “Gun Has No Trigger” for the first time ever on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which coincides with the release of the limited edition “Gun Has No Trigger” Tablet Of Values vinyl single. The 8″ square 200gm thick tablet features the single on the A side and an etching of the song’s lyrics translated into Sumerian Akkadian Cuneiform by Dr. M. Willis Monroe on the B side. An exclusive pre-order is available on the Domino Mart in limited supply.
