In 1952, Art Rupe, owner of Specialty Records, discovered singer Richard Penniman and caught lightening in a bottle. Rowdy, bawdy and charismatic, Little Richard integrated his segregated audiences in a dancing frenzy, held a lit match to R&B and launched the rocket called rock ’n’ roll. Newly remastered and reissued by Concord, this 15 song disc includes his earliest and best-known hits — “Long Tall Sally,” “Ready Teddy,” “Jenny Jenny,” “Rip It Up,” “Slippin’ and Slidin’” — plus demos of “Baby” and “All Night Long,” a never-before-heard interview with Art Rupe, and rare video screen tests of “Tutti Frutti” and “Long Tall Sally.”
