The Monkees are hitting the road again. The world-famous musicians/TV stars are setting out on a 15-date tour across the United States starting in November.
This tour is significant because it will be the first time that Mike Nesmith will be performing with the band since a brief U.K. tour and television special in 1997. (Nesmith had declined to participate in most tours of the reunited band.) The tour also marks the first public performances by the group since the untimely passing of Davy Jones earlier this year.
Current plans for the tour include incorporating a “multimedia” element using rare footage and photographs from the band’s archives. The band is also expecting to play deep cuts from their albums, some of which haven’t been played live since the 1960s. These songs will be played alongside the band’s biggest hits as well as songs featured in the 1968 movie Head.
When asked about the decision to return to the group after resisting for so many years, Nesmith said that “this seemed like a good time to do this-the right time. Who knows when we’ll get another chance?”
