Hollywood is bringing folk musicians Jeff Buckley and his father back from the dead. Don’t worry; we’re talking lights and camera-style, not Frankenstein-style.
Greetings from Tim Buckley is a new biopic that revolves around the titular tribute concert that Jeff Buckley participated in on April 26, 1991 in Brooklyn. The film focuses on Jeff’s troubles as a budding musician and his feelings about his absentee father. Both stars died young, so expect to see some young-uns on screen. Tim Buckley died in 1975 at the age of 28, and his son died in 1995 at the age of 30. You know the story: heartbreak, angst, daddy issues and an early death. For you Buckley fans, the filmmakers have made sure to keep the music in the forefront by featuring plenty of Tim Buckley’s music in the film. As for the casting, Tim will be played by newcomer Ben Rosenfield, and Jeff will be played by Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley. The movie release date has not yet been announced, but Greetings from Tim Buckley should be premiering this year.
