If you weren’t at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park last Saturday, then you missed one hell of a show—Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the Foo Fighters, the Black Keys, Band of Horses and K’Naan. More than 60,000 people rocked out on the Great Lawn. Celebrities like John Legend, Selena Gomez and Olivia Wilde also appeared onstage between acts. The best part is that all the fun and frivolity was for a good cause—to aid in the fight against global poverty. In between the performances, audience members watched films to dropped statistics about poverty and the spread of malaria, polio and other diseases. It might sound a bit depressing, but the festival ended up being a great success. The festival raised $1.3 billion in pledged donations to help the fight against poverty. Among the groups involved were UNICEF, the Half the Sky Movement and the Global Partnership for Education.
