Peter Buck’s got quite an impressive musical history. In 1980 in the town of Athens, Georgia, Buck joined up with Michael Stipe, Mike Mills and Bill Berry in the greatest band named after an involuntary biological sleep function. In 2007, the band joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame family. But last year, after over three decades of music together, R.E.M. announced that they had split. Now R.E.M. guitarist/mandolinist Peter Buck is striking out on his own with the release of his first solo album today. Special album guests include former R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills, Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker, the Decemberists’ Jenny Conlee, Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye, as well as Bill Rieflin and Scott McCaughey. The album will only be available as a limited-edition pressing of 2,000 vinyl copies.
