This month’s Elmore feature on supergroups features an interview with Michael McDonald about the Dukes of September, the supergroup he formed with Boz Scaggs and Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen. Soon, you’ll have a chance to see what they’re like live, and it won’t cost you a thing.
Billboard.com reports that the band is slated to film a performance for PBS’ Great Performances program tonight at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. The concert will be performed for an audience of people who have donated $60 or more to PBS (sometimes, those pledge drives pay off…), but the concert will then be broadcast on PBS stations at an unspecified date. 429 Records is also preparing a DVD release of the concert.
Dukes of September’s repertoire consists mostly of soul covers and performances of each member’s earlier hits. They won’t be on tour again until the end of 2013-Scaggs and Fagen both have other commitments for most of that year-so this’ll be your best chance to hear what they sound like. And, of course, if you want more info on Dukes of September and other great supergroups, check out the latest issue of Elmore Magazine, available on newsstands and here on our website!
