Modern renaissance man Nick Cave is one of the world’s most eccentric songwriters; his work in both The Birthday Party and The Bad Seeds is often morbid, occasionally poignant, sometimes funny, and always affecting. After taking a bit of a break from music to write the screenplay for Lawless, Cave is coming back with a new album with The Bad Seeds: Push The Sky Away is slated to come out on February 19th.
The album’s songs were written over the past year by Cave, and he claims that the Internet had a huge influence on the album’s direction; Cave says that he became “entranced” by Wikipedia entries on events both real and imagined. Cave also felt that the album had a distinctly collaborative feel: “I enter the studio with a handful of ideas, unformed and pupal,” he said. “It’s the Bad Seeds who transform them into things of wonder.”
