Last week, The Rolling Stones caused quite a stir when their mobile phone app posted-then quickly removed-a scheduled tour date at 2013 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. The festival has become big business in recent years, so the appearance of the world’s top-selling rock act on the bill isn’t necessarily surprising, even with the Stones’ historical reluctance to play festivals. Still, the Stones’ retracted announcement seemed to be enough to start the annual Coachella rumor mill.
Pretty Much Amazing posted a screenshot of an e-mail that allegedly revealed the headliners of the coming year’s festival. Along with the Stones, indie rockers Phoenix and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are alleged to be the headliners for the festivals. It’s possible that the screenshot was doctored, as this is the Internet. However, both bands make sense, as they’ve risen high in commercial stature over the years and they both have albums coming out in early 2013. If the rumor turns out to be false, let’s hope that the real Coachella lineup is just as good.
