We may not have to wait another five years for new Strokes material, if a radio station in Seattle is to be believed. This morning, 107.7 The End in Seattle shocked music fans when they posted a notice on their Facebook page claiming to have possession of a new Strokes single, reportedly titled “All The Time.” The song is not available anywhere else (despite 107.7’s crack at having to “leak” the song), but the station claims that we “won’t be disappointed.”
For anyone who has followed the career of the one-time saviors of rock & roll, this should come as a bit of a surprise. The Strokes have been coy about whether or not they’ll get around to recording a follow-up to 2011’s Angles. Between the confirmations and denials of a new album, there was speculation of a possible hiatus for the band. At the very least, after the five year wait for Angles, few would have suspected that the band would rush back into the studio so quickly. As of right now, no one from the band or their label RCA has made any sort of statement about the possibility of new Strokes music, but if 107.7 is to be believed, it’s only a matter of time before we hear from them again.
[UPDATED 3:59 PM]: The Strokes have confirmed to Billboard that “All The Time” will be the first single off of their fifth album, which will be released later this year. Time to get excited, people.
