Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band are heading to Australia for the next leg of their Wrecking Ball tour, but they’ll be doing so without Steven Van Zandt, who will be busy filming the next season of his Netflix series Lilyhammer. Fortunately, they’ve found a more than capable replacement for him: former Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello.
Morello has crossed paths with Bruce multiple times before, most recently on Wrecking Ball itself; he appears on the tracks “Jack Of All Trades” and “This Depression.” He also played with Bruce at last year’s SXSW Festival and at the 2010 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Morello will also be one of the featured performers at the MusiCares benefit, which is honoring Springsteen this year.
Morello will be on tour with the band until April 29th, when Van Zandt will rejoin them in Oslo, Norway. While it wouldn’t be surprising to hear Bruce and Morello play a few Woody Guthrie songs together, I would not hold my breath for the possibility of Bruce busting out his best Zach de la Rocha impression for some Rage Against The Machine songs.
