Music lost a great voice when Levon Helm passed away last year. Many of music’s biggest stars have come together to commemorate the life of the folk-rock icon over the past year, and now the Grammys will host a small tribute of their own at their ceremony this weekend.
According to the Associated Press, the Grammys have organized an all-star performance of “The Weight” in tribute to Levon during the show’s “In Memoriam” segment. Elton John (who wrote a song called “Levon,” possibly about Levon) and Mumford & Sons will lead the tribute, which will also include performances by Mavis Staples (who performed at the Love For Levon concert last year as well as at The Band’s final show), T-Bone Burnett, Zac Brown, and Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes.
“Can you think of any song that fits more,” said Ken Ehrlich, the producer of the Grammy telecast when asked about the song selection. “Philosophically, it fits the moment.”
The Grammys air this Sunday, February 10th, on CBS.
