Even with the recent revival of folk and roots music in American pop culture, few groups are quite as authentic (or as good) as the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Both on record and in person, the band transcend mere tribute and touch on something deep down. In an interview with Elmore Magazine, head Chocolate Drop Don Flemons described it thusly: “There’s a whole other thing that happens when we’re playing the music. The audience takes away something that we can’t really put a finger on or know as we’re putting it out there.” Seeing this band is a truly unique experience in so many ways, it’d be a crime not to do it. The Carolina Chocolate Drops play the Bowery Ballroom on April 3rd, and it’s sure to be one of the best shows anyone sees this year. Don’t miss it.
