Last night, former Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir was unable to finish a set with Furthur at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Furthur is a band consisting of the Grateful Dead’s Weir and Phil Lesh, along with Jeff Chimenti, John Kadlecik, Joe Russo, Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson. The band was closing out a nine-show residency at the Capitol, but Weir was having trouble getting through the night. During a performance of “Unbroken Chain” in the band’s second set, Weir fell over and had to be helped up by crew members. He was given a chair to sit in, and after the song, the band left the stage and returned without Weir. Lesh told the audience that Weir had a strained shoulder, so the band would go on without him. Furthur is scheduled to play Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall tomorrow, but there isn’t any word yet on whether or not Weir will be playing.
