Bruce Springsteen, Pete Seeger and Herbie Hancock will be part of the new batch of freshmen elected to join the American Academy of Arts & Science. The artists are among the 198 new members chosen as part of the class of 2013. The Academy picks out individuals who have accomplished great feats in fields such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, medicine, biology, philanthropy, business, government, the humanities and the arts. Nine individuals were picked under the “Performing Arts—Criticism and Practice” category. Along with Springsteen, Seeger and Hancock, Robert De Niro and Sally Field also made the cut. The new 2013 inductees will be inducted at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Mass., on Oct. 12. You can check out the full list of inductees here.
