Soul icon Aretha Franklin has cancelled two performances scheduled for later this month citing “health reasons.” Franklin was scheduled to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on May 20th and at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut on May 26th, but cancelled both last night. A representative of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra told Reuters that Franklin cancelled her performances because of “a doctor’s recommendation for treatment.”
In recent years, Franklin has had to relax her busy touring schedule because of health issues. In 2010, she cancelled an entire tour after having surgery to take care of an undisclosed health issue which many believe was pancreatic cancer. Franklin has repeatedly denied those rumors.
There isnt’ any word from Franklin’s management about when or if the two cancelled performances will be made up at any point. Soul singer Janelle Monae will fill in for Franklin for the performance with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on the 20th.
