Furthur have pulled out of their headlining date at Napa Valley’s Bottle Rock Festival, saying that guitarist Bob Weir would be “unable to perform in any capacity for the next several weeks.” The cancellation comes less than a week after Weir collapsed on stage while performing with the band at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York.
A statement released on the Facebook page of Weir’s TRI Studios announced the cancellation, adding that Weir anticipates to return to the stage for a series of solo acoustic performances at the end of June. Furthur have released a statement saying that they aim to resume their tour on July 11th at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.
Weir collapsed in the middle of a performance with Furthur on April 25th, during which he had to be helped into a chair by his bandmates before leaving the stage for the remainder of the show. He returned to play with Furthur for the band’s show in Atlantic City two days later, but he has not played since. Bassist Phil Lesh told the Port Chester audience who saw Weir collapse that the guitarist was suffering from a strained shoulder.
Bottle Rock Festival has not announced if they will find a substitute for Furthur’s place on the bill.
