The Red Hot Chili Peppers are hitting the festival circuit this year, but they haven’t presented much in terms of new songs. However, drummer Chad Smith dropped some hints to Billboard that the Chili Peppers are on their way towards making a follow-up to 2011’s I’m With You.
“We’re probably looking at getting together in September and getting on a roll and starting to write songs for the next record,” Smith told the magazine. “We always have little ideas percolating in jams during soundchecks and in between gigs…we just kind of play whatever, so we always have those little tidbits.”
Any new album, though, will have to wait until the Chili Peppers’ extensive tour this year, which includes stops at the Firefly Music Festival in Delaware, Outside Lands in San Francisco, and the Orion Music Festival in Detroit.
