We hesitate to say that Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings are back because the truth is that they never left to begin with. They’ve been a live force to be reckoned with for years, playing with the likes Prince, Beck, Wilco, and John Legend. Now, though, the group have another chance to show that there’s more to them than their famous friends with their new album Give The People What They Want, out August 6^th on Dap-Tone Records.

Recorded at the Daptone House of Soul studio in Brooklyn, Give The People What They Want will hopefully be brimming with the joyful soul that makes the Dap-Kings so thrilling in concert. While it’s surprising that no special guests have been announced for the album, it’s probably for the better. You need to hear what Sharon and the Dap-Kings can do on their own to really appreciate them.
