Irish guitarist Tony McManus, often cited as the greatest living Celtic guitarist, will release a new album, Mysterious Boundaries, on June 25th. The fingerpicker’s new album veers from his Celtic roots towards classical music, featuring pieces by Bach, Francois Couperin, and Claudio Monteverdi, among others.
McManus says the inspiration behind Mysterious Boundaries came from a challenge issued by his friend, mandolin virtuoso Mike Marshall. After Marshall challenged him to learn a Bach prelude, McManus set off recording the 9-song album. “Along the way there were many technical hurdles to jump, and not being a classical musician, my route over them would not be the conventional one,” McManus said about making the album.
Mysterious Boundaries comes out on June 25th on Compass Records.
