There are few, if any, lyricists today writing like John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats. The singer/songwriter has been crafting surreal songs about metalheads, suburban pill addicts, and even his own personal turmoil. Add on an incredible gift for melodies and a crack band in drummer Jon Wurster and bassist Peter Hughes, and you have one of the best bands in the country today. The Mountain Goats have been getting records out at a surprisingly fast rate, and while their tour is likely to focus on songs from their last album Transcendental Youth, don’t be surprised if Darnielle brings out a few new songs for fans.
