Brian Wilson is back in the studio working on a new solo album. The upcoming record from the former Beach Boy will be his first collection of original material since 2008’s That Lucky Old Sun.
Wilson’s new album will include a number of guest musicians, including former Beach Boys Al Jardine and David Marks, legendary producer/session musician Don Was, and guitar legend Jeff Beck. Wilson told Billboard that he had been planning to work with Beck since 2005, saying “Jeff’s guitar playing is exactly what I want for my new album.” Wilson will also be hitting the road with Jardine and Marks for a short tour this summer.
Wilson last released solo material in 2011, when he put out two albums of covers of the Disney songbook and George Gershwin. In 2012, Wilson reunited with the Beach Boys and recorded That’s Why God Made The Radio; the group toured through most of 2012 until its co-founder Mike Love inexplicably tossed Wilson, Jardine, and Marks out of the band.
