Crazy, antic-heavy garage-rockers The Black Lips are recording their follow-up to 2011’s Arabia Mountain, and it looks like they’re working with a special guest. The Lips are heading to Nashville to record part of the new album with Patrick Carney of the Black Keys. Bassist Jared Swilley told The Hollywood Reporter that the new album will be a mix of “club bangers and southern rock anthems.”
In addition to Carney, the album will also feature Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox. But that’s not all for the Lips; they recently released a documentary called Kids Like You and Me. The film tracks the band’s Middle East tour last year.
What’s next for the band? They want to be the first band to perform on all seven continents.
“We’re working real hard to get to Antarctica right now,” Swilley said. “There is a research center there and it has a pub. There are 1,5000 to 1,600 contractors and scientists working there, so we just have to get the money to get down there.”
The Black Lips kick off their European tour in Italy next week.
