San Francisco’s Flamin’ Groovies are one of the great under-appreciated bands of all time. Don’t let the psychedelic name fool you; the band’s early work was straight, hard-driving rock ‘n’ roll. Sadly, this made them outcasts in the Haight-Ashbury scene in the late ’60s, but they really came into their own during the rise of punk rock in the late ’70s. By this writer’s estimation, Shake Some Action is one of the best rock albums of all time, hands down. The Groovies are playing together for the first time since 1981, and they head to New York to shake things up for the July 4th weekend. Don’t miss this one.
