You know you’re music royalty when even the MLB has to recognize your greatness. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise when everyone already knows you as the Queen of Soul.
Aretha Franklin will be honored at the 2013 Major League Baseball Beacon Awards Luncheon next month. She will be honored alongside sports great Bo Jackson before the MLB’s annual Civil Rights Game on Aug. 24 in Chicago. The game will feature the Chicago White Sox against the Texas Rangers.
“The MLB Beacon Awards offer a positive reminder that there are individuals who use their celebrity and fame to make a positive difference in our society,” said MLB Executive Vice President of baseball development Frank Robinson.
Previous recipients of the MLB Beacon Award include Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, Muhammad Ali and baseball Hall of Famers Frank Robinson, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays.
