One Kim is out, but another Kim is in. The Pixies have announced that Kim Shattuck will be the band’s new bassist and backup vocalist on their upcoming European tour. The original bassist, Kim Deal, left the band a few weeks ago.
Shattuck is the frontwoman of L.A.-based rock band the Muffs. She formed the Muffs in 1991, and since then, the band has released five studio albums. Before the Muffs, Shattuck was a member of the Pandoras, an L.A.-based all-female band. The Pixies’ European tour will start off on Sept. 29 in Paris and end on Nov. 24 in London. It’s been a while, but fans will be seeing some new stuff.
“Along with everyone’s favorites, we’ll be playing songs that we haven’t played in ages or never played live before,” said Black Francis. “Songs like ‘Brick is Red,’ ‘Havalina,’ ‘Tony’s Theme’ and ‘Sad Punk.’ We’ve probably rehearsed some 80 songs, so we’ll be able to change up the set at the last minute if we feel like it. We’re all really looking forward to this tour.”
Just a few days ago, the Pixies released “Bagboy,” their first new song since 2004. Neither Deal nor Stattuck were involved in the song.
