It looks like Jack White’s Third Man Records is the place where all the cool kids hang out. The record label has been featuring an impressive group of artists for its Live at Third Man Records series. All of the full-length albums are recorded in Third Man Records’ Blue Room, which the label claims is the “only current venue in the world where a band can record a live set direct-to-tape in front of a paying audience.” The shows are recorded onto one-inch eight-track tape (usually by famous award-winning engineer Vince Powell) and then mixed to two-track tape, which is then used to cut the vinyl master so that the recording remains analog.
The King Tuff Live at Third Man Records 12-inch vinyl is now available, and a Live LP from the Melvins is due out Sept. 10. King Tuff’s set was recorded in July, and the Melvins recorded in May. Some of the other new releases from the Live at Third Man Records collection include LPs from the Shins, the Kills and Seasick Steve. You can visit the Third Man website for more information.
