For the amount Yoko Ono detractors, there are an equal amount of admirers. A long list of stars, including Lady Gaga, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore and Iggy Pop, joined the Plastic Ono Band (featuring Sean Lennon and Wilco’s Nels Cline on guitar, Mike Watt on bass and Yuko Araki on drums) onstage at the Orpheum in Los Angeles. Pop joined in on Ono’s “Waiting for the D Train,” and now the pair are releasing the song as a limited-edition single that will also include Pop’s cover of Ono’s “I’m Going Away Smiling.” The 1,000 one-sided vinyls will also include an etching by Ono on the flip side.
The songs will also be available on Sept. 13 via Chimera Music. Proceeds from the song will go to Paws 4 You Rescue, an animal rescue group that Pop chose.
You can watch the video of Pop and Ono playing “Waiting for the D Train” below. But here’s a warning: Prepare for plenty of weirdness and odd stage performances. But it’s Yoko Ono and Iggy Pop; what else would you expect?
