There are three things in life that are consistent: death, taxes, and Superchunk. The North Carolina punk band have been a consistent force in underground music since they formed in the late 1980s, and their latest work (2009’s Majesty Shredding and this year’s I Hate Music) could arguably be their best. Alas, this tour marks the first time the band are on the road without founding member Laura Ballance, who is taking time off from playing because of a hearing condition. Even so, don’t expect the band to lose a step of energy as they bring their raucous live show to the Bowery Ballroom. The album may be called I Hate Music, but when it comes to Superchunk, that statement couldn’t be farther from the truth.
