Here’s something nobody probably expected: Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is teaming up with Norah Jones for a duets album of Everly Brothers covers. Titled Foreverly, the album is due out on Reprise Records on November 25th.
The album takes inspiration from Songs Our Daddy Taught Us, the 1958 Everly Brothers collection of Americana songs such as “Long Time Gone” and “Who’s Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Feet?” “A couple of years ago I discovered Songs Our Daddy Taught Us and fell in love with it,” Armstrong said. “I thought it would be a cool idea to re-do the album, but with a female singer.” Thus, Armstrong turned to Jones, a longtime Everlys fan with a self-confessed “sucker for harmonies and country music.” “I thought of Norah because she can sing anything from rock to jazz to blues,” Armstrong said. “I thought the songs would take on a different meaning working with her, and she has a really good ear for arrangements.”
You can pre-order the album on the duo’s website or on iTunes. You can also hear the first sample of Armstrong & Jones’ collaboration “Long Time Gone” by clicking here.
