This month marks ten years since singer/songwriter Elliott Smith’s untimely death, and there have been numerous tributes to the beloved performer, ranging from the appropriate (Ben Kweller and Jason Lytle going on a four-city tour playing Smith’s music) to the artistically questionable (Madonna covering Smith’s “Between The Bars”). On October 21st, the biggest tribute yet to Smith comes to Brooklyn with some of his most notable fans.
Cat Power leads an all-star tribute lineup that will take over Brooklyn’s Glasslands Gallery alongside DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith, Marissa Nadler, The Low Anthem, and members of Speedy Ortiz and Here We Go Magic. All proceeds from the show will benefit the Elliott Smith Memorial Fund, which supports arts education for children who have been victims of abuse. Anyone who cannot attend the show is encouraged to donate to the Elliot Smith Memorial Fund or to Outside In, an organization dedicated to helping young homeless people.
