Dean Wareham has played under a number of guises in his long career-Galaxie 500, Luna, and Dean & Britta, to name a few-but now the indie legend is going by his own name for a new EP, Emancipated Hearts. Technically his first solo recording, the EP finds Wareham in an interesting position in which his lyrics, rather than his trademark swirling guitar textures, are the main focus. Nothing quite exemplifies that shift like “Love Is Colder Than Death,” the video of which was released today.
Directed by Lucas Celler, the video finds Wareham gazing out a window while flashes of color swirl around his face. The dreamlike images could easily fit with any of Wareham’s songs, but this could stand as one of his best works.
